Challenge

Wipro embarked on its workplace modernization journey to achieve two major goals:  help customers derive business value from the latest technologies and boost employee productivity with a highly secure mobile work environment. The company wanted its employees to be able to use Microsoft Office 365 cloud-based productivity apps anywhere, anytime, and on any device. But the existing traditional security solutions were incapable of supporting such a scenario. Enabling a highly secure mobile work environment demanded the inclusion of complex policies, which in turn necessitated a huge amount of operational rigor. The process was also prone to manual errors that could potentially allow employees to download information onto an unmanaged machine, resulting in security vulnerabilities.

Solution 

Wipro deployed Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security—a suite of interoperable cloud identity, access management, compliance and security solutions.  The suite includes Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) Premium, Microsoft Intune, and Azure Information Protection. As an early adopter of Microsoft Office 365, Wipro has also embraced Microsoft Exchange Online for cloud-based email, Yammer (an enterprise social network) for supplementing traditional employee training, and Microsoft Teams (a chat-based workspace) for improved collaboration and communication.

Business impact

• Improved customer and partner collaboration: The conditional access policies in Azure AD help employees share documents, resources, and applications with trusted outside entities (who can use their own credentials), and collaborate more efficiently with them from remote locations.
  
• Robust security posture: Wipro uses Azure AD Premium P1 for identity and access management, in conjunction with Intune mobile application management to empower employees. Employees can now use their iOS and Android devices to safely access Office 365 cloud services, software as a service (SaaS) apps, and Wipro line-of-business apps anytime, anywhere. A combination of single sign-on capabilities and Azure multi-factor authentication supports conditional access for managed and unmanaged devices, including devices running on Windows 10.
  • At the same time, Azure AD Application Proxy ensures highly secure remote access to its on-premises corporate applications. The security features in Enterprise Mobility + Security suite also ensure compliance with the GDPR, classify and label emails for internal use, and support data security measures for all Wipro units doing business with customers in the European Union.
• Empowered IT to ensure workplace transformation at a rapid pace: Wipro IT ensured rapid global deployment of Windows 10 – in just three months - using the Autopilot feature included in the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite. A company-wide change management program fuelled by the automation capabilities built into many Microsoft cloud technologies enabled rapid change management. Finally, the Wipro team leveraged Intune to deploy standard Wipro policies and applications onto the employees’ devices in just 45 minutes - a significant operational benefit for a large global organization.
