Client background
Client: US-based multinational company
Industry: Consumer goods
Products: Household, healthcare, and personal care products
Area of operations: Worldwide
Number of employees: Over 30,000
Challenges
The client was facing challenges with their network infrastructure. Over 260 branches in 100 countries were connected over traditional MPLS WAN and the internet, leading to inefficiencies. Their existing WAN service provider was unable to meet the challenges posed by the network.
The challenges included:
- Two legacy global MPLS WAN circuits servicing their branch offices incurred high bandwidth costs and provided limited visibility and control of application traffic
- SaaS and Cloud adoption by the client required increased access to internet services and the growing business demands required integration of IoT and content-heavy apps. These requirements made the existing network very complex and difficult to manage
- Rolling out regular Quality of Service changes and updates necessitated large time and effort investments
- Under utilization of the backup circuits added to the cost of bandwidth
Solution
Wipro, with their consulting framework for network - InsightixTM and their extensive experience in large-scale project management, developed a phased plan for SD-WAN implementation including:
- Creation of the business case and documentation of technical recommendations and roadmap for SD-WAN implementation
- Analysis of available SD-WAN options, a recommendation of preferred provider and proof-of-concept study and sample sites
- Analysis of commercial benefit including TCO and ROI for the selected SD-WAN solution: Prisma SD-WAN
- Providing SD-WAN as a Service
- Delivering Wipro’s network analysis framework - InsightixTM and dedicated CoE for SD-WAN with multi-OEM support for enabling accurate consulting and swift execution
Business impact
Wipro and Palo Alto Networks provided a stable network environment with SD-WAN to support the client’s global business. This drastically brought down WAN costs and improved network responsiveness and productivity by 40%.
Palo Alto Networks revolutionary Prisma SD-WAN allowed the client to leverage any transport, seamlessly integrate the Cloud, reduce cost and complexity, implement digital transformation and align their WAN with business policies for performance, security, and compliance.
With a defined three-year technology roadmap, the client was able to reap operational, business and financial benefits which include:
- 40% improvement in bandwidth availability without additional WAN costs
- 30% reduction in operational costs
- A business-aligned network
- Enhanced view of network and applications
- Superior reporting with function-wise bandwidth consumption patterns
- Improved local internet access compliance with proxy service insertions
