This holiday season, Wipro will donate books on your behalf to children in underserved communities around the world.

Our Initiative

Wipro is committed to giving back to the communities we do business in. In partnership with non-profit organizations such as First Book, The Asia Foundation, Read to Rise, and BookTrust, we’ve distributed over 400,000 books to underserved communities around the world. Our employees have volunteered to visit elementary schools to deliver books and backpacks, read to children, build classroom libraries, and more.

As the world emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, we want to help the next generation – especially those from underserved communicates – develop a lifelong interest in learning, be it in STEM subjects, literature or the arts. In 2020, Wipro’s Book Gifting Program delivered new books and high-quality educational resources to more than 70,000 children across 944 schools and learning programs in five continents. This year, Wipro and these non-profits plan to donate additional books and learning resources to children in need. Below are highlights from the donations we made in 2020. South America

In 2020, Wipro helped Fundación Escuela Nueva (FEN) distribute over 1,000 books through the program’s Literature at Home initiative, which delivered book sets to 308 participating families throughout Colombia, reaching 326 students. The program also connected children with artists who hosted remote learning programs to promote socio-emotional learning and joyful engagement with literature and music.

Fundación Escuela Nueva is dedicated to improving the quality, relevance, and competency of education by promoting active, participatory, cooperative, and personalized learning. FEN also seeks to improve the lives of children and their families through education that empowers and enables them as individuals.

Europe

In 2020, Wipro worked with several organizations to distribute nearly 5,500 books throughout Europe, including BookTrust (UK), the Real Pearl Foundation (Hungary), and COSIV (Czech Republic).

BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, providing books, resources, and support to children across the country to increase literacy and foster a love of reading. Books are delivered through schools and through Letterbox Clubs, and directly to children every month to help them build their home libraries.

The Real Pearl Foundation focuses on literacy and art education, as well as other social services for families and communities in need.

COSIV was founded to build the local and national relationships necessary to ensure every student has access to quality education. Resources provided through this program were distributed through the Czech Association of Streetwork, a platform for clubs and leisure activities for children in need.

Asia

Wipro worked with The Asia Foundation to deliver around 19,000 printed story books throughout Cambodia’s Siem Reap, Battambang, and Prey Veng provinces. The books were supplied by The Asia Foundation’s Let’s Read digital library, and distributed with the help of local partnerships, including one with a mobile library that travels to designated areas and offers storytelling sessions with a librarian. With the help of these partners, Wipro reached nearly 13,000 children across 182 schools and programs.

We also worked with The Asia Foundation’s Books for Asia program to provide digital content and 10,200 new books to more than 35,000 children in 100 schools and programs throughout India. Local partner Society for All Round Development helped distribute these books.

In the Middle East, Wipro partnered with the Jordan-based Madrasati to distribute 120 Kutubee virtual library subscriptions and 40 reading tablets to two schools. Madrasati was founded to address the urgent educational and physical needs of 500 local schools, and remains dedicated to mobilizing individuals to guarantee safe learning spaces, raise teacher morale, and garner societal support for education.

Africa

In 2020, Wipro worked with Read to Rise to distribute 7,575 books to 31 primary schools throughout Mitchells Plain (Cape Town) and Soweto (Johannesburg).

Read to Rise promotes youth literacy in underserved communities by visiting schools and hosting interactive sessions to get students excited about reading. The program also allowed students to take books home when schools closed following spikes in COVID-19 cases.
