October 22, 2015 : According to projections, freelance workers occupy a growing percentage of the workforce, with some studies predicting that 40 percent of workers will be freelancers or independent contractors by 2020.
Several studies published recently are painting a more detailed picture of what those workers look like – and some of them may defy assumptions about who is taking advantage of a gig-based employment.
Widespread mobile adoption has driven the trend, with on-demand gigs accessible to virtually anyone with a smartphone.
