Wipro Carbon Value Modeling Solution

All industries are seeking to reduce their emissions in response to climate change, but some face a more challenging path than others. These hard-to-abate sectors include coal and gas power, commercial transport, mining, manufacturing, airlines, and construction — sectors in which it is difficult or costly to replace fossil fuel products, energy sources, and feedstocks with renewable options.

These industries need holistic, data-driven roadmaps that lay out realistic paths to decarbonization. Yet most current solutions are point solutions. They may solve the reporting problem for compliance purposes, and some can even manage low-carbon projects, but they lack an integrated approach that assesses the current state of the business, models future lower-carbon states, and projects the financials investments that will be required to reach net-zero emissions.

Wipro’s Carbon Value Modeling Solution delivers this integrated approach and gives enterprises in hard-to-abate industries the confidence to make bold decisions as they chart decarbonization pathways.

Identifying and Refining Credible Decarbonization Pathways

Many companies in hard-to-abate sectors have already issued time-sensitive net-zero pledges, and net-zero pledges will continue to proliferate across all industries in the coming decades.

If companies fail to meet their net-zero objectives, they will face penalties and carbon taxes while accruing new costs in the form of carbon offsets. They may also experience sluggish investor support and reputational damage.

As they pursue decarbonization, all global enterprises (and particularly those in hard-to-abate sectors) face multiple innate challenges, including:

  • Emission reduction strategies: Reducing emissions across the entire value chain requires analytical processes and clean tech/renewable energy expertise that many companies lack.
  • Supply chain complexities: No company can achieve net-zero alone; all pathways will involve encouraging suppliers to adopt sustainable practices, source low-carbon materials, and manage logistics emissions effectively.
  • Financial implications: Transitioning toward net-zero often requires substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure, energy-efficient technologies, and research and development. The financial implications of these investments can be challenging, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with limited resources.
  • Regulatory and policy changes: Complying with complex and rapidly changing regulations across different jurisdictions can pose challenges, especially for multinational companies.
  • Stakeholder expectations: Companies need to be transparent about their progress, report their emissions accurately, and engage with stakeholders (including investors and customers) to gain their support.

Wipro Carbon Value Modeling Solution

The Wipro Carbon Value Modeling Solution delivers integrated decarbonization roadmaps to meet these net-zero challenges head-on. Built upon AWS Carbon Data lake and a Cloud services ecosystem, it uses a data-driven approach that enables transparency when setting baseline emissions, managing net-zero performance indicators, testing hypotheses and assumptions about emission-reduction measures, planning and executing low-carbon initiatives, and ensuring that organizations meet their commitments.

With the Wipro Carbon Value Modeling Solution, enterprises can identify key bottlenecks through detailed scenario analyses. Crucially, the solution visualizes both the financial and emissions impact of decarbonization pathways, giving organizations the ability to optimize energy transition strategies in light of sector- and enterprise-specific dynamics.

Once the goals, targets, and forecasts are set, organizations can use the solution to manage emission indicators, understand the root causes of variances, and enable continuous improvement.
