Bangalore - August 12, 2014:
Wipro Ltd. today announced the launch of earthian 2014, a global initiative by Wipro for sustainability education program in schools and colleges. This program, which enters its fourth year, aims to provide an interconnected understanding of different disciplines in education related to ecological and social sustainability. With ‘Water in our school’ as the theme, Wipro aims at long term education and learning that will help educational institutions, educators and students make more informed choices about their lives and society.
Institutions from across the country are invited to form teams and participate in this learning program. Various teams from schools and colleges are shortlisted for the awards based on their submissions focused on the theme. earthian provides a broad platform for interaction, followed by a second level of a more intense and continuing engagement for the participants.
The program is tailored into three segments of activities aimed at building skills, attitudes and values to shape a sustainable future. Winning schools and colleges will be invited to partner with this three year program Continuous Engagement Program (CEP). Wipro’s objective with CEP is to engage with the earthian awardees over a continued period and help integrate sustainability education in a holistic way, involving institutions, teachers and students.
Sanjay Chakma, Principal, Aditya Public School, Doddaballapur said, “the value this program has given them is immense- you can see behavioural change in the allocation and usage of water by them’.
Anurag Behar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Wipro Ltd. said, “With every year, earthian seeks to bring together more institutions, teachers and students onto a platform that fosters a richer understanding of how sustainability in education can be a powerful influence on our thoughts and actions in the future. In the process, it has also grown a vibrant community of participants who not only share their learning and experiences but also act as ambassadors for earthian”
In the 2013 edition of the earthian program, Wipro received over 500 submissions from across the country out of which 30+ institutes were selected as winners by an independent expert jury. The winning institution was awarded a trophy and cash prizes.
