Lotus Notes Migration
Top 10 Reasons to Migrate to Microsoft Exchange Server
Increased productivity for IT staff
Administrators can save time and increase productivity with:
Single-seat administration for Exchange Server and infrastructure through Active Directory directory service.
Instantaneous, online snapshot and backup of Exchange Server databases and storage groups with the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Volume Shadow Copy service and Exchange Server 2003.
Single mailbox restoration.
Enhanced security
To uphold the tenets of the Microsoft Trustworthy Computing initiative, Exchange Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 share the goal to be secure by design, secure by default, and secure in deployment. Exchange Server 2003 protects your messaging environment better with:
Improved spam controls with Exchange Intelligent Message Filter and support for real-time block lists.
Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) support and automatic sign off after inactivity in Microsoft Outlook Web Access.
Updated Virus Scanning Application Programming Interface (VSAPI) and enhanced action and reporting through vendor software.
Reduced cost
Exchange Server 2003 offers better server consolidation with more mailboxes per server for Exchange Server 5.5 users:
Increased performance between Microsoft Outlook clients and Exchange Server 2003 increases productivity and enables Exchange Server mailbox server consolidation scenarios.
Support for four-node and eight-node clusters when used with Windows Server 2003 operating system, Enterprise Edition.
Improved performance on replication traffic when used with Windows Server 2003.
Anywhere access
Enable your mobile workforce to stay connected:
Exchange ActiveSync provides direct synchronization between Windows Mobile–based Pocket PCs and Smartphones and other mobile devices such as the palmOne Treo 650 and enabled Motorola mobile phones. This capability reduces costs by eliminating the need for additional servers and special services.
Extensible HTML (XHTML) (Wireless Application Protocol [WAP] 2.x), compressed HTML (CHTML), and HTML browser-based devices and mobile devices that can browse Exchange Server 2003 mailboxes.
Ubiquitous client access using a single URL for all external client types such as Outlook, Outlook Web Access, and mobile devices.
Increased server availability and reliability
With the Windows Server 2003 operating system, Enterprise Edition, you get improved virtual memory management and four-node and eight-node node clustering, plus speedier mailbox recovery:
Improved cluster failover time
Improved public folder replication
Integrated Mailbox Recovery Center
Recovery Storage Group
Faster, easier upgrades and deployment
Exchange Server 2003 makes upgrading easier with:
More checks to ensure that your earlier environments have been correctly prepared before native Exchange Server 5.5 upgrades.
Active Directory Connector Wizard that automatically creates connection agreements between Exchange Server 5.5 and Active Directory.
Detailed upgrade guidance through the Exchange Server 2003 Deployment Guide, available on the Microsoft TechNet site.
Public folder migration and new administration tools.
Easier migration and co-existence using Lotus Notes and GroupWise connectors.
Immediate increase in user productivity Integration
Improvements with next version of Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and Outlook Web Access offer:
Greatly improved Outlook and Outlook Web Access performance that enables high productivity for mobile workers connecting over slow, latent, inconsistent network connections.
Increased security for Internet access from Outlook through remote procedure call over hypertext transfer protocol (RPC over HTTP) that reduces the need for a virtual private network (VPN) connection when used with the Windows Server 2003 operating system.
Improved Outlook Web Access interface and features offering a faster, richer, and more useful user experience.
Improved manageability and health monitoring
Take advantage of improved management, monitoring, and troubleshooting for Exchange Server 2003 with:
Microsoft Operations Manager Exchange Server Management Pack with 1,700 out-of-box rules and a built-in, updated knowledge base.
Microsoft Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool with 1,200 rules linking to 800 articles to help you configure and maintain a healthy system.
Capitalize on existing technology and infrastructure
Manage your costs and pace of deployment using existing infrastructure:
Co-exist with Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Windows 2000 operating systems and with Exchange Server 5.5 and Exchange 2000 Server.
Run on either Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Windows Server 2003 operating systems.
Connect and share information with other directories by using Microsoft Metadirectory Services and Active Directory.
Collaborative application development
Enable line-of-business applications and other programs to securely access Exchange Server data and to provide integrated workflow scenarios and Web services.
Customer recognizes Application Compatibility as a single potential barrier to Vista™ Deployment
The Solution Approach
Wipro’s Product Strategy & Architecture (PSA) Practice has developed a Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange Migration Solution. Our solution includes two core components, the Migration Study and a Guaranteed Solution Delivery Pricing arrangement.

Migration Study
The migration study is the product of an in-depth survey of the customer’s existing Lotus Notes infrastructure as well as the envisioned future state based on Microsoft Exchange technology.
Deliverables of the migration study include
Cost Analysis – Wipro PSA’s cost analysis will include detailed estimates for the deployment including hardware, software, on-going maintenance, labor and support.
Benefit Analysis – Wipro PSA’s benefit analysis will include detailed estimates of the potential benefits that will be realized by the organization as a result of the migration to Exchange technology. Wipro PSA’s financial modeling process is flexible allowing the customer to estimate only those benefits that they are comfortable quantifying.
Technical Design and Deployment Plan – Wipro PSA will work closely with Wipro delivery teams to develop a high-level technical design of the targeted platforms as well as the associated deployment plan.
Process
Wipro PSA’s approach for this solution offering includes a six step process:
Wipro and Microsoft jointly identify a qualified candidate for project participation
The customer fills out a detailed, customized survey providing Wipro PSA with the necessary data to begin the financial analysis. Wipro PSA begins developing the business case after receiving this data
Wipro PSA and delivery team architects analyze the current infrastructure and application customization
Assessment
a. Wipro defines the infrastructure needs and provides estimates for the rollout
b. Wipro defines the migration approach (tools based or customized approach) and creates estimates for the migration
c. Wipro produces the final model defining the projects’ benefits and costs
Microsoft and Wipro present a final report that includes the cost and benefits, as well as the technical design and deployment plan
Wipro’s delivery resources and MCS deploy the solution
