At Wipro, we believe in working towards a stronger and more able community. While we are dedicated to enabling companies and institutions around the world in implementing digital transformation, Wipro has also directed its efforts towards bringing about societal transformations.
It has been almost 20 years since Wipro started its journey in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. Over the years, we have gained recognition for being an ethical company with a strong focus on sustainability and contribution to the society. Our endeavor is to make a lasting impact towards creating a just, equitable, humane, and sustainable society; supported by our initiatives such as Wipro Cares, First Book in North America, Million Women Network in the US, and Wipro Siyapha in South Africa. Wipro works closely with NGOs and other charitable organizations in Australia, Singapore, Japan, and other Asia Pacific countries to extend support in the areas of education, healthcare, food, etc. Along with the charitable contributions, Wipro’s teams in the region deeply resonate with the company’s cultural values by generous devotion of efforts, time and resources towards the cause of giving back.
Reconciliation Action Plan in Australia
Wipro has taken its first steps towards turning good intentions into positive actions to help build higher trust, lower prejudice and increase pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures by joining Reconciliation Australia and establishing a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP fosters Wipro’s mission to contribute to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. To realize the objective of this program, Wipro makes a conscious effort to monitor recruitment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and partners and ensures future employment and development opportunities for the group.
Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF)
Wipro proudly supports the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation that provides scholarships and employment support to young indigenous students. Over the past 12 years, AIEF and its community of supporters have collectively extended life-changing opportunities to over 1,000 young people.
Wipro has been actively engaged in several volunteering initiatives with Foodbank Australia, a conduit between the food industry’s surplus food and the welfare sector’s needs. Our employees regularly volunteer to support Foodbank in its mission to fight hunger. In 2019, Wipro supported five of Foodbank’s charity partners by packing over 8,000 meals. In one such exceptional CSR visit, the team packed 16 tons of food during their half-day activity.
Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD), Singapore
Our Singapore volunteers conduct engagement activities for the beneficiaries at the SPD and spend quality time engaging and conversing with them once every two months. Participants contribute through an educational tour at the Singapore Discovery Center with the beneficiaries, bringing them around the exhibits in the Center, engaging with them and assisting them in daily activities. This has been a welcome change for SPD beneficiaries. Our volunteers from Wipro appreciate the immense learning and value of these activities, and have made them a part of their lives.
Second Harvest, Japan
Wipro’s presence in the APJ region, especially in Japan, goes back decades when it first started its operations there in 1998. Wipro Japan has been engaged in giving back to the society through various initiatives over the years.
Along with volunteers from the Wipro Japan team, we have been working with Second Harvest, Japan’s first-ever food bank that collects donations and distributes food to those in need. By reducing wastage and ensuring the food being distributed is safe for consumption, Second Harvest not only gives food a second chance at life but also to those who receive it. It delivers food to children’s homes, centers for the disabled, single-mother shelters, and various other welfare communities working towards the same goal.
Giving back to the society
Over the past years, our Spirit of Wipro Run (SOW Run) fundraising campaign has received mass support and contribution from stakeholders across our ecosystem of partners, clients, employees, and students in the region. As a result of this initiative, we have donated towards several beneficiaries such as Salvation Army, World Version Singapore, World Version Japan, China Foundation for Disabled Person, Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia, Brainchild Foundation, Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, and Australian Childhood Foundation to name a few.
It is truly the will and dedication of our volunteer groups that has helped Wipro give back to the community and live up to its goal of developing a sustainable society.
