We've been seeing it in sci-fi and action films till now, and finally it’s finding its way into reality. Office spaces with PCs, laptops or tablets might soon be obsolete. Instead, the common corporate professionals will be wearing eye wear that lets them project screens wherever they want and get all their work done with haptic technology that recognizes hand gestures. This crossover from the virtual to the real world is augmented reality, and innovations in this space are aimed at redefining the way we work, play and live.
Recently, a global tech firm introduced its augmented reality device known as the HoloLens. This device projects 3D holograms into the space you are occupying, and allows you to interact with the produced images. The innovation was greeted with excitement from tech enthusiasts everywhere, with the device being portrayed as a game changer. But how exactly will holographic technology change our lives?
Let's start off with the first obvious application of augmented reality-gaming. With the lines between the virtual and real getting blurred, the augmented opens up opportunities for the perfect gaming experience. Imagine chasing the bad guy in an adventure game and being able to see him in front of you, projected into your living room.
Such technology can not only enhance your experience in gaming but also lend a helping hand in making your home and life smarter. For instance, you are making apple pie in your kitchen for the first time, and you wish for some assistance. While in the present time, we'd Google a video or text our mothers, but with holographic augmented technology, all you have to do is search for a virtual chef, and watch him bake the pie alongside you, in your kitchen.
But, holographic technology is not all fun and games. The device can aid you in a variety of ways. For instance, if your plumbing system has a leak, all you need to do is call a plumber using the device. He will use the device as his eyes and even draw instructions on the space around the leak to aid you in repairs.
Heavy research into augmented reality based technology has helped companies realize the potential in all sorts of industries. Even criminal investigations stand to benefit by incorporating holographic technology. An investigator could walk into a crime scene, mark all evidence using his holographic device and share the same with associates to expedite the investigation, all without disturbing any physical evidence at the crime scene.
From all the applications listed above, to all the potential applications in industries such as fashion, recreation, and more, the numerous ways in which augmented reality can change our lives are evident. Research and innovation into this sector of technology can aid tech companies to improve such technology and really bring the envision science-fiction of books into our future, and change the world.
