Adding to the trend of IT as-a-service is a new cloud service offering from Oracle in the cloud integration space called - Service Oriented Architecture - Cloud Service (SOA CS) - which enables the SOA platform to be forward looking and drive the future of business.
SOA CS is a lightweight service which provides power and flexibility of Oracle SOA Suite in the Oracle cloud with choice of a dedicated SOA Suite, Service Bus, API Manager Instance, B2B, ESS, and Managed File Transfer capabilities. It offers all the rich features of integration middleware, installed and pre-configured which in turn, enables development right from day one of the project - there by eliminating initial time as well as costs which goes into environment set-up.
Today, integration strategy has become the heart of the entire IT ecosystem. So is there a need to integrate SOA CS with cloud? The answer is YES. What is needed is urgency by IT to ensure they proactively avoid the accidental shift to SOA cloud architecture. SOA CS cloud offerings enables experienced System Integrators (SI) to provide hybrid cloud integration model for customers and make their cloud journey seamless and smooth. Customers can significantly reduce IT maintenance and administrative costs as Oracle helps handling platform provisioning, installation, and domain configuration. Oracle SOA Cloud Service being subscription-based, no large investment in IT expertise and hardware is required, which further facilitates the team to concentrate more on design, testing, and deployment of integration solutions.
In addition, customers can also subscribe to Oracle SOA Cloud Service to create application non production environments in the cloud - without the need to provision and configure their own servers. Through this, workloads can be moved from cloud or on premise to cloud and vice-versa. The Oracle SOA cloud service also provides backups, patching, scaling and recovery support.
This is a very competitive move from Oracle where annual subscription cost of SOA CS is less than other available solutions in the cloud integration area. With Oracle offering much richer integration experience through SOA CS, it will be interesting to see how customers adopt to this style of cloud based connected services.
