In the age of the customer, businesses need to be agile to adapt to the changing business needs and technology. This has put immense pressure on the IT departments of organizations, who are struggling to optimize cost, speed up provisioning and increase availability of test environments for agile software development. According to a survey, roughly 40% of a tester's time can be consumed by test environment issues, thus affecting quality and productivity.
Can IT departments respond to these testing challenges and associated business needs to establish and manage testing environments in an agile world successfully?
The answer is yes.
Test Environment Management (TEM) is a multi-dimensional function in the software delivery process. It aids testing by providing validated, stable and usable environments to execute test scenarios. Organizations do not see it as a separate entity, and so, fail to tap into its full potential. By focusing on the following three key areas - service integration, service automation and service optimization - we can bring along short and long term benefits.
