A recent ad from a technology storage vendor shows the intersection of two main streets named - Big Data and Cloud. It would not be a stretch of imagination to add intersection of another important street – mobility to the picture. It is increasingly clear that we are entering a zone of the intersecting mega trends that are going to drive the adoption of Enterprise technologies in the near future.
At the heart of these technologies becoming mainstream are the business challenges that every company is seeking to overcome – Standardization of operations & Improved productivity, Enabling collaborative engagement with stake holders for rapid product development & superior customer service. Seeking superior business intelligence to make right decisions to attract and retain profitable customers is another challenge.
- Cloud seeks to standardize systems and processes to reduce operating costs of IT. With standardization comes the ability to share – infrastructure, applications and even business processes there by leading to simplification and reduction in operating costs to the business.
- The quest for competitive advantage no longer rests just in superior products, marketing or presence in markets, although all of these are essential table stakes. Competitive advantage increasingly lies in the ability to understand and act on the intelligence embedded in digital myriad of transactional and unstructured data generated by customers, partners, employees and products themselves from various data sources. This is where the Big Data processing and analytics come into picture.
- In a world where the number of mobile devices will equal and soon exceed the number of human beings on the planet, creating a web of systems to capture data relevant for the corporations originating from the devices into organization's eco-system will be critical to derive the intelligence that Big Data analytics seeks to achieve.
IT architectures that possess the capability to - standardize, scale and provide contextual and actionable business intelligence is the promise of the future. System designers and Solution architects will need to evolve Cloud, Information Management and Data Integration reference models that allows for adopting capabilities like Big Data by leveraging and extending capabilities of Cloud.
Do share your thoughts on trends that are going to dominate IT architectures. We would love to hear from you.
