The intersection of technologies is creating an unprecedented multiplier effect. When multiple new advanced technology devices interact, the outcome is a disruptive application which was never thought of – it gives rise to a new technological phenomenon. Consider Youtube, which was born out of technological breakthroughs like cheap cameras, reduced storage costs, widely accessible computing power, self-publishing, annotations, commenting features, and explosion of mobile devices capable of accessing the rich content on the go. The old way of cutting coupons is now gone. Coupons are now shown on mobiles. The inner workings are based on the intersection of technologies like massive processed CRM databases on cloud and GPS location of user.
At the intersection of these technologies arises a need for a world that radicalizes the notion of service, education, entertainment, commerce, healthcare, banking, media, manufacturing, travel, law, governance, safety, politics and society itself. It leads us into rethinking the world in a way which we haven’t thought about in a long time. In the present times when technology is changing faster than what we can even comprehend, one has to be at their feet to identify the emerging trends, new business models. A good example of how one can ride on the wave of disruption by identifying the key trends is Apple. Apple Inc., is a company known for its founder’s innovativeness and knack of coming up with revolutionary products and iconic designs.
The way I see the above scenario is that they realized that they were staring at a disruptive technology when they stumbled upon Capacitive Touchscreen Technology. It was a new opportunity and a completely new business model. Apple provided consumers with an intuitive user interface, a completely refreshed experience of web browsing, and a huge catalogue of apps in its App store. The combined might of the above mentioned innovative breakthroughs were what helped Apple carve a new face for the mobile industry. It leveraged its capability as a vertical integrator and disrupted the market with a completely packaged ecosystem of hardware and software - a model which would ensure their continued dominance in the mobile technology.
We are headed into a more efficient world. A world made more efficient by processing vast amount of data that we are generating each day. Each passing day our devices are becoming more and more efficient and yet even more powerful. What we have here is the intersection of a vast number of technologies. It's the chemistry between energy management, miniaturization, machine data, cloud technologies, mobile networks and analytics that makes this possible. It’s this chemistry that if we harness, we can indeed move mountains and create a significant impact into the future that we step into.
