Recently I completed 25 years in Wipro. It’s amazing to think that I have spent more than 50% of my active years in this organization and all these 25 years I have had the privilege of working with great bosses, amicable colleagues, some greatest minds in the industry and more importantly – Challenging customers. During my entire career span, some of my greatest learning has come from my interactions with customers. Wherever I go and whomsoever I speak to, one word constantly lingers in the air…’Cloud’. Although this topic has been beaten to death in several forums, the customers are increasingly showing great interest to be an early adopter of this disruptive trend. Trends like this will require organizations to seriously look at IT consolidation, standardization and rationalization. Therefore, it’s important that organizations are ready to take advantage and avoid high transition/migration costs as these trends mature.

During my interactions with an assortment of customers, partners, advisors and analysts in the course of my travels across Europe, Asia and the US, I noticed a common issue that kept surfacing. While a majority of concerns raised revolved around business and IT alignment and cost reductions, above all, the key question was how to develop and ensure sustainable competitive advantage with IT infrastructure transformation. But before we get into this, we also need to mull over another equally pertinent question – why is it so important for organizations to consider IT infrastructure transformation at this point of time?
