Returning from Oracle's FY13 North America Partner Kickoff I have had time to reflect, and get excited. HR and Financial enterprise applications have been waiting for innovation and it is now here. Oracle has, after a long wait, delivered on the promise of Fusion applications and currently has over 200 customers adapting various modules. With the addition of the Exalogic and Exadata engineered solutions, enterprise clients have an opportunity to modernize their technology, increase performance, and reduce current IT costs
Oracle Fusion's HCM offering, now has more than 40 deployed clients. Many of these are SaaS based with some on-premise. Wipro has enjoyed the opportunity to work with Oracle on the Peoplesoft-Fusion migration tool and has delivered large scale on-premise Fusion implementations. The "deploy as you prefer" strategy of Fusion makes it unique. Also, it is a part of the complete enterprise architecture and I expect to see Fusion HCM emerge as a key player in FY13.
In the financial applications market, there have been two dominant choices: SAP and EBusiness Suite. They were designed before SOX and other regulations, requiring complex retrofitting to function. Oracle Fusion Financials takes the best of current applications unlimited (JD Edwards, Peoplesoft, EBusiness Suite) and advances it with the Fusion platform. While competition from other players is strong, they typically have only a single deployment mode available while Fusion offers SaaS, Cloud, and On-Premise options.
Last but not the least, enterprises can run these applications on Oracle's Engineered Systems comprising Exadata and Exalogic for extreme performance. As organizations deal with exploding data sets and business needs for near real-time decision-making, the need for applications running in a highly optimized manner will increasingly become mainstream.
While I may argue that Oracle may have too many irons in the fire, I think that Fusion and the Exa-stack will make it hard to beat Oracle for price/performance options. The new strategy will breathe new life into this mature vendor.
