SALT and its applicability in enterprise domain
Abstract
These are the days where speech enabled services are gaining momentum. In traditional IVR services running over telephony, the applications are tightly coupled to the telephony platform. Speech resources were closely integrated as well. “Speech Application Language Tags” (SALT) is an upcoming high-level Web markup language with rich set of features providing a Speech- User-Interface to control the flow of IVR applications. These applications can run over telephone as well as other devices. SALT aims at creating a voice user interface. This makes it easier to create and maintain voice applications, as easy as creating and maintaining visual Web applications through HTML.
This white paper gives an introduction to SALT and its features followed by how SALT can be used in developing Applications in enterprise domain. Especially, how SALT fits in the .NET framework for developing tele-applications (like tele-ticketing, tele-banking etc), voice browsers, multimodal applications and CRM services etc. VoiceXML is another competing technology for SALT. The comparison of SALT with VoiceXML is also discussed in this paper.
