QoS for UMTS iu data bearer protocols
Abstract
The third generation networks and services present opportunities to offer multimedia applications and services that meet end-to-end quality of service requirements. Many of the services will be able to use different QoS depending upon the application and the type of data being transacted (divided as speech, video, file transfer, secured money transaction etc). In 3G Network, QoS implementation is a layered architecture. It allows each bearer service on a specific layer to offer its individual service by using the services provided by the layer below. In this paper, we shall discuss the QoS parameters provided in the UMTS stack of 3G network and their mappings onto RAB (Radio Access Bearer) parameters over Iu Interface. Also discussed along the line is our understanding of the implementation issues of these parameters in the context of implementation of User Plane (i.e. IuUP and GTPU).
