Mobile subscriber data management - A 4D model for 3G networks

Abstract
As networks evolve from wireless voice networks to wireless multimedia networks, the networks will have to manage an increasing amount of data about the subscriber in order to provide revenue generating services. Increased competition and lack of differentiated services will drive operators to know more about the subscriber, the phone, and his/her preferences. New services will need access to different types of service and subscriber data. As subscribers migrate from one network to another, operators have to migrate the subscriber data, and also port the numbers to new database and networks. Rather than move the data around, operators have to vision a data centric network and move away from network centric data.

This white paper emphasizes the view that networks, applications and data have to be separated in the long run. The concept of network specific data tied to a subscriber is passé. Rather, a new breed of systems that isolate the subscriber, service, interface and data is needed.
