Emotion management for better performance
Abstract
As the quest for exceptional workforce performance continues, more companies are making significant progress in addressing the human performance challenge, through novel and unconventional approaches. Some believe in hiring those with leadership potential and qualities while others firmly support the idea that leaders can also be developed if one has the right attitude. Creating a competency-based employee and performance management system for hiring, advancement, development and succession is proving to be a differentiating factor in corporate HR management. Success in the workplace takes a lot more than knowledge or even experience. IT organizations, like others, today realize that the strength of their company does not just depend on technical skills but also on soft skills. The gifted manager needs a high rate of ‘emotional intelligence’ too.
This white paper focuses on the new yardstick for productive performance – personal qualities that contribute to excellence at work, taking for granted that intellectual abilities and technical expertise exist. It proposes that the rational and emotional aspects can be amicably blended to make us emotionally intelligent. This emotional empowerment can lead to ‘self actualization’.
Also, this paper goes through a brief understanding of the concepts, how they influence individuals/organizations and what can be done to promote better performances and teamwork by fostering and developing emotion management skills.
