Storage management for server based FC HBA adapters

Abstract
Traditional storage management technologies have a number of shortcomings such as vendor dependency, issues of interoperability, high cost of development etc. Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) has developed a common storage management interface called SMI-S to address these issues among devices and management applications within a networked storage environment. A number of open source communities such as Pegasus, WBEM Services and OpenWBEM are working on CIM schema implementations. These implementations have CIM server framework which has the ability to interact with the client and to enable new providers.

This white paper covers the need for SMI-S, explains the FC-HBA (Fiber Channel Host Bus Adapter) provider development using SNIA’s HBA APIs and Pegasus CIMOM (Common Information Model Object Manager).
