An off-board navigation system using cellular networks for telematics
Abstract
This white paper discusses an off-board navigation system using cellular networks for automotive Telematic applications. It aims to present the possibility of converting existing Telematic clients as a potential off-board navigator by incorporating GPS capabilities and providing two-way communication interface to a mobile handset or cellular network. The pros and cons of using off-board technology in the Telematic scenario suggest a probable architecture for such a system. The aim is to put forward a plausible and cost effective solution by taking advantage of the scalable nature of Telematic devices thereby adding value to the end-user and equipment manufacturers.
