Abstract
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of television signals using digital rather thanconventional analog methods. The DVB system already defines a family of standards toenable interoperable digital video broadcasting systems based on MPEG-2 standards forvarious transmission media including satellite, cable, terrestrial and microwave.

A standard was needed that allows applications to be developed on top of the DVB system,independent of vendor, author and broadcaster. The Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) defines astandard for the user terminal to enable the reception and presentation of applications acrossuser terminal vendor, authors of applications and service provider (broadcaster).
