Implementation of Fibre Channel Over TCP/IP
Abstract
Storage Area Networks (SANs) have become commonplace in today’s organizations due to the manifold increase in the data storage requirements of organizations worldwide. Fibre Channel is the prominent technology used in the storage market. The major limitation of the Fibre Channel technology is the short distance covered by the Fibre media. This has led to SANs evolving as independent entities separated from each other. Fibre Channel over TCP/IP has been designed to overcome this limitation.
Fibre Channel over TCP/IP enables us to connect the SANs by encapsulating FC frames and transferring them over an IP network. This paper describes our implementation of Fibre Channel over TCP/IP on Linux.
