Interactive TV - An approach paper
Abstract Interactive TV is the combination of digital tele vision and Internet technology to deliver a mix of programming, restricted or open Web access, email, on-line shopping and customer service to viewers watching at home. While the current generation of interactive television systems offer basic Internet browsing functionality, the next generation of technologies available in the coming months promise to give far greater flexibility both to viewers and to content providers. The convergence of Internet technology and television has only just begun.
This document, looks at the key business drivers of iTV. It then focuses on the basic architecture of a cable ITV network that includes the head-end, the video-servers, the customer premise equipment etc. After giving an idea about the network architecture, the next section addresses the integration of iTV networks.
