Abstract Today, the greatest challenge of a mechanical engineer is to manufacture products in less time than ever before. Latest technologies contribute towards lowering the cost and producing higher quality products. The new PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) technologies have automated 'Design' through 'manufacture'. All the downstream design efforts and applications leverage the data contained in these solid models and with behavioral models.
Design criteria are used to initiate detailed design are the detailed specifications of individual components and mechanisms as well. These specifications include design rules, other engineering intelligence governing mechanics of the product, constraints from components interfaces and assemblies and of course, packaging considerations.
