Abstract
The oil industry is implementing and enhancing integration projects to bring in upstream, mid stream, downstream operations into an extended value and information chain. Various tools and technologies are being used to achieve the same and approaches vary from removing all legacy systems to building point to point or state of the art solutions on top of existing systems. However, the fundamental focus of all such projects, whatever is their use of technology and age has been the integration of all functional levels within the company and a free exchange of information.

This white paper explores some legacy integration techniques and details the messaging hub based technologies currently in use for refinery integration implementations. Actual implementations using these technologies are also seen. Finally, some frameworks associated with integration are explored.
