Abstract
The utility industry is going through turbulent times. The industry has undergone a number of regulatory as well as structural changes in the last few years. In some economies such as the US, UK and other parts of Europe, the pace of deregulation had been faster than others, which has forced utility companies to make radical changes to their business processes and application systems in a limited span of time. The challenges in billing of Commercial and Industrial customers have not emerged just due to the rise in complexity of bill processing, but a lot is due to changes that have taken place in other core sub-systems including metering, customer management, financial accounting and pricing. In this white paper we will look at the changes in these sub-systems, which necessitate changes in billing.
