Globalization and localization
of the MFP controller
A leading multi-function
peripherals (MFP) manufacturer in Japan, worked
with Wipro to develop its MFP product for the international
market with support for multiple languages. Using
six sigma techniques Wipro ensured close integration
between geographically distributed product development
efforts, provided automated test tools and delivered
ahead of schedule with product uniformity. This
helped the customer bring the product to market
much ahead of schedule.
Project description
To globalize
the Multi Functional Peripheral (MFP) device controller
source base and then to localize the source base
to the Japanese and FIGS (French, Italian, German
and Spanish) languages. Test the product in each
environment.
Challenges
to client
Client wanted
to penetrate into the Japanese Market with
a unique feature - "All in Japanese"
for the first time
Client had
very tight schedules and wanted to launch
the product much ahead of his competitors
Client had
to believe in the capabilities of Wipro in
understanding the huge source base and the
product itself with in a short time
Challenges to Wipro
Source modules
were being developed at two different client
development centers - USA and Japan. Client
wanted Wipro to manage the frequent code drops
from either of the locations. Wipro had to
do the final source base management at its
facility in India
Interact with
both the client's development locations to
educate them on what the Globalization, Localization
does mean and how the code has to be written
for the new developments
Wipro had to
take up the challenge of understanding the
controller source base and the product itself
with in a short time
Wipro had to
share and be part of the client's vision to
grab the Japanese MFP market
Achievements
1.
Client could
release the product into the Japanese market
well before the competitors and could grab
a sizeable piece of the market share
2.
Client found
just 12 field errors in the QA validation
of the implementations
3.
Client appreciated
Wipro’s process followed for code synchronization
