This document provides a design overview of the
Wipro's Memory Manager for embedded systems (RTOS).
The RTOS Memory Manager (System memory manager)
employs Manual Memory Management Scheme in which
the programmer has a direct control over allocation
and de-allocation using APIs like new (), delete
() etc. It has following limitations:
- External Fragmentation after repeated allocations
and de-allocations.
- Internal Fragmentation
- Performance will be reduced after repeated
allocations and de-allocations because of increased
search for right fit.
Because of the limitations cited above it is
always better to go for a custom Memory Manager
for performance & resource critical applications.
Wipro has designed and developed an efficient
memory manager for embedded system (RTOS). The
main objective of the memory manager is to be
more efficient and should give a better performance
compared to system memory manager. Also the memory
manager should be easily configured for various
RTOS application depending on their memory requirement.
