The customer wanted to launch new generation
services with new rate plans but their existing
legacy billing systems was a limitation. The need
was to provide a billing system which permits
easy billing for multiple domains like GSM, GPRS,
PSTN, ATM, frame relay, ADSL, satellite, data
center, internet services and content Services.
It should also have the flexibility to add future
services with minimal change to the software.
The design had to be scalable to ensure growth
in subscriber base and services. The design also
had to ensure high availability and no dependency
between the multiple geographical regions being
served by the system. The challenge was to design
a customized modular billing solution to cover
order management, technician management, credit
control, mediation interface, partner management,
rating, invoicing & payments. Even bigger
challenge was to integrate the solution with a
host of external applications like Oracle GL,
payables, directory services, document tracking,
financial institutions, automated payment machines,
network inventory, GIS and IVR and web portals.
