Application Development and Maintenance

Helping the client meet consumer demands faster

The client
The company is one of the leading mobile operators in Belgium.

The challenge

The client needed to reduce its "time to market" for offering new mobile services to tackle competition and cater to growing customer demand. The company needed a far more flexible Order Management (OM) solution that would provide Order support (subscription and subscription manipulation of advanced services), to offer new services and products to their customers quickly.

The client's existing OSS-BSS system architecture was mainly built on the near-obsolete PNI (Prism New Initiatives) solution. This legacy system escalated maintenance costs and needed large development cycles to launch new products.

The solution

The company was looking for a partner who could replace and improve upon the existing OM system, which is a very customer specific application, and had a huge role to play in addressing the problem. They approached us to develop the Solution Strategy and Architecture for the new OM solution.

After over 100 workshops with the client and a detailed analysis of the OM business processes, we identified and defined interfaces and interactions between various OM components and external applications. We developed interface specifications with 30 other critical applications like billing, provisioning, number portability etc. Our solution is compliant with J2EE and eTOM standards. The technology used for realizing these components was Tibco Business Works (BW) 5.x and ILOG JRules 3.x

Business benefits
Time to market reduced from 6 months (for an application with minimum interfaces) to a maximum of 1 month, even for processes with maximum possible application interfaces.
The new, single Order Management solution replaced the four existing different Order Management solutions.
Consolidated and complete view of customer and end-user subscribed products and devices
Scope for User intervention/ Manual Activities besides the automated processes
