The client, a large European ISP, was looking for a cost-effective Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Solution for its customers in Germany. The client's existing voice set-up is most modern but complex. The access technology used was Wireless in Local Loop (WLL).

The Challenge

To develop a 'proof of concept' VoIP Solution that would deliver to subscribers all ISDN features and allow access through WLL equipment.

Wipro was selected for its long man-years of telecom expertise since the 'proof of concept' project involved high-end consultancy, design and implementation of a VoIP System. Voice quality was benchmarked to ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) standards and the other deliverables were:

	Ensuring delivery of all ISDN features to subscribers over the IP network
	Enabling subscriber-access through WLL using Nortel Reunion devices
	Interfacing the VoIP network with the voice service provider
	Delivering toll quality voice calls with a mean opinion score (MOS) of 4.1

The Solution

The Wipro solution, involving deep levels of consultancy, design and implementation work, took nine months to deliver.
Wipro designed, chose products from multiple vendors, implemented, tested and handed over the solution. The key was integrating multiple products and technologies, yet deliver seamless performance.

The Benefits

The principal benefits were robustness and cost-effectiveness while proving VoIP can be implemented over ISDN and WLL protocols. Other value-adds were:
