Development environment management from ODC for a large utilities company in U.K

The Customer

The client is a public gas transporter in UK, who owns, operates and develops a substantial portion of the gas transportation system and all of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facilities in Great Britain.

The Challenge

The challenge lay in finding a method whereby the client could bring down support cost and reduce the time required to address a problem. There was a need to simplify the team structure and to make the entire operations simple to handle as the current operations were carried out of 250 locations in UK and the entire IT infrastructure was connected to data centers at four locations.

The Solution

After studying the situation and the requirements of the client, Wipro formed a team that would take the complete accountability for the support provided to all the development environments and provide a single point of contact for all the requirements.

Wipro managed the transition from the various existing teams to the Wipro team with its proven transition management methodologies. Wipro had formed a Knowledge Acquisition Phase (KAP) team to acquire knowledge on various products and their application. The Offshore Development Environment Service (ODES) team piloted and implemented the services.

The Benefits
Through the execution of the project, the client gained benefits like proactive services, single point of contact resulting in simplified operations, clearly laid out service norms for each and every activity, and a service policy in place. The service window got enhanced from eight hours to 12 hours and the cost saving accrued was more than 50% every year.
