Client is one of the world's leading fragrances, flavors and food ingredients companies. It has activities in 38 countries and employs over 4,000 people. Client was migrating the IT environment to Windows 2000 from Windows NT and required assistance in deploying his Windows 2000 standard image on the desktops in the Asia-Pacific region.

Challenge

The deployment environment, a multiple master domain model, consisted of 584 client systems spread over 18 locations in 11 countries. This includes the numerous account domains and multiple resource domains. The trust relationships were entrusted between the different geographical domains. The desktops required manual configuration of Site/Region specific Applications/Devices, including user/computer settings for different sites and User awareness training for the new configuration.

Solution

Wipro performed a pilot deployment where the build image was verified and validated. Based on the pilot run, effort estimates and project plan was arrived at, which included the deployment plan and the logistics plan. This was discussed with the client and revised. The team was split into 4 groups, each being responsible for a set of locations. A project manager based in India coordinated the entire project.

The entire deployment was completed within the given time schedule thereby eliminating cost over-run. By virtue of its design the new Windows environment is highly scalable & hierarchical information repository enables consolidation of administrative, security and resource functions from a single point. Full fledged Directory server environment and interoperability with other Directory environments

and consolidation of all the domains into one forest couple has further simplified infrastructure administration.
