Porting services from proprietary to Unix & Windows NT environments

The customer

A leading global technology company providing ATMs, retail systems and datawarehousing services.

The challenge

The client desired its four Million Line Of Code(MLOC) to shift from its proprietary operating systems to 64 bit Unix & Windows NT environments. The project required providing a detailed common code base across target platforms.

The solution

The team from Wipro conducted a comprehensive study of the components of the products and re-designed them for easy portability & migration to Windows NT & Unix platforms. During this engagement a number of tools were developed to address migration issues automatically and Wipro filed three joint patents with the client for designs & tools.

Technical environment

	Platforms: Windows 95/98, Win NT, Solaris.
	Technologies: C++, MP-RAS, Forte IDE & Teradata.

Benefits to client

The engagement helped the client leverage immensely our expertise in embedded & enterprise areas. As many as three joint patents were filed and the relationship provided the client a way forward to add several innovative features to the product. The project was executed in an offshore development model which resulted in valuable cost savings to the client and shorter delivery schedules.
