Automating inter-company transactions for an elevator manufacturer

The customer
One of the largest elevator manufacturers in the world.

The challenge
The client has manufacturing locations in 30 countries and representative offices in more than 60 locations worldwide. With such widespread operations, they had to deal with very high volume of inter-company transactions. Inadequate communication systems meant that processing of these transactions was labor-intensive and involved paper transactions. The challenge for Wipro was to automate the entire process of inter-company transactions.

The solution

Wipro did the requirement study and suggested a web-based application for the client that would run in a central server and be accessed through the clients' intranet.

The Wipro team designed and developed an application, now called Inter-company Management System (IMS). Capturing invoice details of inter-company shipments is the core of the IMS application. It acts as a one-point interface for all inter-company transactions for the purpose of tracking the status of invoices, payments and recording/escalating disputes and reconciliation.

Wipro has set up a web-based user interface to IMS allowing users to directly enter the invoices into the IMS system. IMS has a three-tier architecture with IIS as web-server, MTS as middle ware and MS-SQL database. The application has been developed in ASP, Java and VB scripts. The Wipro offshore team works as a virtual extension of the Clients' IT department.

IMS is projected to reduce cycle time of reconciling all accounts from 3 months to 1 week. Successful implementation of the offshore model of software development has resulted in huge cost savings for the customer.
