In this consulting assignment,
the interdependencies of the servers/applications,
their usage pattern and performance factors were
first studied. Wipro proposed that the Web Servers
presently running on SPARC / Solaris be replatformed
and consolidated on Intel / Linux and recommended
BladeCenter after evaluating various servers.
For the Application and Database servers, the
LPAR technology from IBM was suggested. For Linux
adoption, Wipro proposed a phased approach involving
Web servers followed by Application and Database
servers.
Measurable business benefits
 |
Number of servers
reduced by 50% by adopting the LPAR technology
leading to ease of administration |
 |
Increase in speed of performance,
since the Blade servers are more powerful
than the original servers and provide greater
capacity & performance within the same
footprint |
 |
Protection of investment
by the fact that pSeries systems with LPAR
supports both AIX (the existing operating
system) and Linux |
