The client is a global multimedia products company which manufactures media electronic products like CD-ROM drives, sound blaster cards, graphics blaster cards, PC-surround speakers etc.

The client had a system in which orders for multimedia products were booked against year-beginning sales forecasts from regional units. The company's existing transaction system that required constant manual intervention allowed little flexibility in planning inventories and any fluctuations with orders caused tremendous pressure on the delivery commitments.

Wipro implemented i2's factory planner (FP) to help the client overcome the limitations in the existing system. The scope of the project ranged from consultancy for the new work order automation and materials planning processes to the FP implementation and interface design. The current processes were studied intensively and remodeled to take advantage of the advanced features of FP.

Some of the distinct features that the new system provided included:

	Due-date quoting (DDQ)
	Dynamic bill of materials (BOM) creation
	Attribute based inventory consumption
	Alternate procured parts
	Engineering change notification (ECN)
