Migration of a 3D image planning (MRI) for a leading Japanese medical company

Customer
The customer is a leading medical equipment company from Japan.

Challenge
For getting efficient and real time image location, the customer had developed a 3D image planning software as an add-on to its existing MRI software. This software was prototyped in tcl / tk. For increased stability and speed the client wanted to migrate it to C/OpenGL. So the challenge was to develop an efficient design and then recode the existing script in C/OpenGL for faster execution.

Solution

With a team of 3 consultants this project was completed in a period of six months. In absence of proper design documents, the team parsed the existing code and developed a complete understanding of the design. This was followed by developing a design model for the existing product. After building up an understanding of tcl/tk, the interface and controls were redeveloped in C.

Subsequently the interface and controls for the 3D imaging were redeveloped using OpenGL / X- Motif. The final target to interact in real-time and display 30 slices per sec was delivered.
