The client
Global Fortune 500 company, the client is UK’s largest gas supplier. The client provides gas to 12.6 million households, serves 6.2 million residential electricity customers, and supplies electricity and gas to more than 900,000 businesses.
 
The business challenge
As a part of its expansion plans, the client was looking forward to reengineer some of its business processes and implement a much more robust system in place. The solution thus provided must ensure seamless integration of SAP and non-SAP components, providing a reliable service to end customers.
 
The solution

Adopting Wipro’s Accelerated SAP (ASAP) methodology blended with Six-Sigma tools, a phased approach was adopted for the project implementation. Wipro based the solution on SAP suite of products consisting of SAP R/3, SAP IS-Utilities, SAP CRM and SAP BW. The middleware used is SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI).

The solution designed included, among other implementation, migration of business components from 3 gas billing systems and 1 electric system, system rollout to 1400 users, integration with non-SAP external components.

 
Business benefits
An integrated SAP database enabled single point access to all data including metering data, customer data, billing data, programs and nomination data
The solution enabled the client to increase the number of customers managed by each customer service representative through the automation provided by the solution
Business processes that we re-engineered using Six Sigma methodology helped tackle duplication and errors in the system
This solution enabled the client cross-sell some of its products. It was found that the client's market share in the SME segment grew considerably as a result of this ability
