The speedy implementation of an ERP solution for a forest products company was made possible by a mix of onsite and offshore development

The client
Our client is a leading manufacturer and distributor of forest products, based in the US. We were working on executing a project to improve the efficiency of operations of their Paper, Pulp and Packaging products division.

The challenge
The organization wanted to implement an ERP system to improve the efficiency of operations of its paper, pulp and packaging products division. They needed a partner who would be able to take complete ownership for the rapid development of the RICE (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Extensions) objects

Wipro solution
Wipro employed a proven framework to develop RICE components offshore for their Maintenance, Purchasing and Stores functions. Starting with a Gap Analysis to identify requirements in each functional area, these components were developed in an identified sequence of activities resulting in the creation of the RICE (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Extensions) objects:
Finalize reporting requirements and design at a functional and technical level
Map data from existing legacy system to SAP R/3
Design interfaces at functional and technical level
Identify and design the forms required to support the business processes, such as the purchase order, request for quote, bar-code label and work order
Design the extension to the SAP R/3 product

Also, onsite, we worked in the Team SAP mode, along with SAP and the consulting partner to do the blueprint of the Sales & Distribution module of the SAP R/3 4.6B system.

Benefits
Our close interaction with the client's team resulted in a rapid ramp-up in their specialized skill-sets. Our application integration skills ensured that the solution worked seamlessly with existing systems. And the use of our offshore model meant that development activities could take place on a 24*7 basis, greatly reducing costs and project cycle time.
