Helping Olympus capture the Chinese market

The idea
Delivering a integrated business solution addressing needs of a growing business.

The client
Olympus is a worldwide maker of digital cameras and other consumer products including traditional cameras, binoculars, and microcassette tape recorders. Olympus also makes products such as microscopes, measuring equipment, printers, barcode scanners, and magneto-optical disk drives.

The business challenge

In tune with the growing business, Olympus Sales and Services Co. Ltd (OCM) was looking forward to open main sales and distribution offices at Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou for tapping Chinese market. While doing so, some of the major challenges Olympus was confronted with were, an incumbent manual accounting system, diverse and complex legal requirements cross these locations, and all this was to be done in a very short span of time.

The solution
Wipro partnered with Olympus in a TeamSAP mode to provide a robust and scalable business solution, enabling a seamless sales and distribution network across the three key provinces. The entire solution was deployed in just 100 days. A snapshot of the engagement follows:
Business process reengineering
Efficient project management
End user training and support

Extensive business process study across client’s financials, sales and materials management functions lead to substantial process reengineering and deployment of scalable systems. Solution validation workshops, multi-lingual project managers and regular cultural indication and informal interaction curtailed the project implementation time considerably. While chalking out a roadmap for continuous improvement, Wipro assumed the responsibility of end user training and post go live support.

Business benefits
Creation of an “Asian Template” for standardization across all business processes in Asia
Integrated solution addressed diverse legal requirements for the three provinces
A standardized, fully automated and integrated financial solution has replaced the manual accounting process, leading to faster closure of book of accounts
