| i-Desk,
introduced by Wipro Technologies, is a new kind
of portal for employees. It is a tool for self-service,
collaboration and knowledge management.
All internal communication and personnel matters
are brought together at a central point via i-Desk.
Employees can organize their social life there,
buy and sell items and set up interest groups.
Members of staff who are working together on projects
can brainstorm online and employees on the shop-floor
have the opportunity for direct contact with senior
colleagues. Because the day-to-day administrative
tasks are simplified by i-Desk, the HR department
can carry out more of its real tasks, such as
bringing HR activities into line with company
policy and deploying the available talent to achieve
the company's goals.
Some examples of how i-Desk can be used: employees
can order a taxi to be sent to the airport or
their home, can book a conference room for meetings
or can even rent a house simply by clicking on
the 'How do I?' link. The virtual helpdesk also
includes the Flexible Expenses Plan, where employees
can submit travel requests or fill in their expenses
claims forms. When members of staff leave the
company they can click on the 'No Dues' link to
leave behind a message for their colleagues. The

Jungle'.
