Custom development of billing system for a national PTT in Middle East

A key service provider in the Middle East region, offering a wide range of services covering Voice, Wireline, Wireless, Data communication, Internet access, GPRS, Cable Television and Internet related services.
 
Challenge

The customer wanted to launch new generation services with new Rate plans but its legacy billing systems was a limitation. The need was to support a billing system which permits multiple domains like GSM, GPRS, PSTN, ATM, Frame Relay, Cable TV, ADSL, Satellite, Pager, Coast Station, Call Center, Data Center, Internet Services and Content Services.

The challenge was to develop a customized billing solution including modules like Sales and Order Handling, Work force Management, Rating and Discounts and Invoicing & Payments. Even bigger challenge was to integrate the solution with external applications like Oracle GS, Payables, Directory Enquiry, Document Management Systems, Banks, Automated Payment Machines and IVR.

 
Solution

Wipro is currently involved in the custom development of the client's billing solution using a scalable architecture based on RUP methodology. The solution is designed to integrate the existing legacy applications with the new applications.

Wipro is involved in the implementation of this solution right from requirements capture phase to conceptualization, design, development, migration and transitioning. The new billing system would be fully convergent with technologies like CDMA, CA-TV, ISDN and 3G.

Highlights of the solution are:
Distributed database architecture to support high scalability (upto 10 million accounts)
Scalability from 4000 to 10000 application users
Pre-paid and post paid facilities in a single billing system
Flexible product and services module to support various domains
Ability to integrate with other applications for smooth flow of information using EAI (TIBCO)

Wipro enabled a highly scalable Billing Solution to handle subscriber growth, both in terms of number and in terms of services offered. It needs only minimal customization requirements in the future for adding new services. Other features of the solution include simplicity and easy application management. The solution was in line with the latest GSM roaming standards ensuring excellent throughput, scalability and flexibility.
