Abstract
Despite best efforts at Knowledge Management, many organizations
fail to achieve their objectives. They fail to cultivate
what may be their greatest asset in today's knowledge
economy - their people. Capitalizing on these intellectual
resources - using existing knowledge to improve performance
or combining bits and pieces to create something new
- can bring a competitive edge. Organizations tend to
take extreme approaches to Knowledge Management. They
either invest heavily into Knowledge Management technologies,
failing to embed knowledge into their processes or look
at re-engineering of their processes neglecting use
of technology as a key enabler. This paper takes a look
at these two different schools of thought on Knowledge
Management and in the process tries to evolve a unified
framework encompassing people, processes and technology
to make KM a successful reality in organizations.
