Abstract
Customer service has always been the leading business
driver for retailers striving to increase their slice
of the retail pie. The point of sale has been recognized
as a key interaction point between the retailer and
the customer, and as technology and business processes
have evolved, retailers have realized the crucial role
that POS systems play in improving customer service
and increasing customer retention.
However, due to technical limitations imposed by the
existing systems, retailers looking to extend the functionality
