Abstract
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of television
signals using digital rather than conventional analog
methods. The DVB system already defines a family of
standards to enable interoperable digital video broadcasting
systems based on MPEG-2 standards for various transmission
media including satellite, cable, terrestrial and microwave.
A standard was needed that allows applications to be
developed on top of the DVB system, independent of vendor,
author and broadcaster. The Multimedia Home Platform
(MHP) defines a standard for the user terminal to enable
the reception and presentation of applications across
user terminal vendor, authors of applications and service
provider (broadcaster).
