Abstract
Utilities need to preserve their ratings, at the same
time they need to continue to work very hard to convince
their customers that they are receiving competitively
priced, reliable power. Utilities need to explore ways
and means of sustainable competitive advantage through
better use of capital and management strength. This
needs 'leap of faith' and continuous innovation. Innovations
in Global Sourcing can be one source of such competitive
advantage and it will become a necessary strategic tool
for many utilities in the coming years.
This paper examines why utilities sector need to aggressively
explore IT outsourcing through a global delivery model.
This model can dramatically improve productivity for
utilities, enhance competitiveness and save utilities
significant capital that frees up cash for usage in
other strategic areas. This has been experienced by
companies in most of the other sectors in the economy
to yield significant time-to-market and cost advantages.
