Abstract
Canonical messaging is highly useful when integrating
a number of applications. It can provide organizations
with a means of leveraging data using industry standards.
Canonical messaging essentially results in reduced costs
and high return on investment (RoI). This white paper
provides an introduction to canonical messaging and
underlines its importance in the enterprise application
integration space. It outlines the steps required to
move from traditional application specific formats to
a common application neutral format. The use of XML
in developing canonical messages is stated with its
benefits of data re-use and reduced maintenance costs.
