Abstract
The 10 Gigabit Ethernet is positioned as a high-speed
unifying technology for LANs, MANs, WANs, and Storage
Networks, providing high bandwidth at relatively low
cost. In LAN applications, 10 Gigabit will enable organizations
to scale their packet-based networks from 10 Mbps to
10000 Mbps thereby leveraging their investments in Ethernet.
In MAN and WAN applications, 10 Gigabit Ethernet will
enable service providers to create extremely long-distance
Ethernet links at very competitive costs. In the Storage
area, it can be a replacement for the costly Fiber channel
technology. The technology will enable high bandwidth
applications like Video-on-demand, distributed computing,
real-time modeling and simulation for scientific applications,
medical imaging etc.
10 Gigabit Ethernet is an advanced, faster version
of version of Ethernet abd it supports data rate of
10 Gb/s. It offers similar benefits to those of the
preceding Ethernet standards. This white paper explains
the possible cost effective applications of 10 Gigabit
in the area of LAN, MAN, WAN and Storage.manufacturers.
